It’s December, which means I could put up our tree today.
It’s just a little guy.
I haven’t put it up since 2009, because I’ve been worried about what the dog may do. But this year I decided, eff it.
I took off most of the old decorations – some crappy dollar store balls and garland – and simplified. I left the multi-colored lights and the olive wood ornaments from the holy land. I finally got a topper, just a simple silver star. That, plus a garland of silver beads and a matching tree skirt, and we’re set. All inexpensive stuff from Target, just in case Enli or Lucy are feeling destructive. I did add the “Our First Christmas Together” ornament my mom got us the Christmas after we got married.
I figure that aside from the olive wood ones, since our tree is so small I’m just going to add ornaments that have meaning. So it’s a little bare now. But I’ll find something to represent myself and Darren and yes, each of the pets. Then, as we’re gifted ornaments, or life events happen, I’ll add an ornament to the tree.
That’s the plan, anyway. We’ll see how it all works out.
Although suddenly I’m second-guessing my tree topper.
